In January 2019, a 3D printed concrete pedestrian bridge developed by Tsinghua University (School of Architecture) was opened in Shanghai's Baoshan Intelligent Bay Science and Innovation Park. The 26.3-meter-long and 3.6-meter-wide pedestrian bridge borrows the structure of China's ancient Zhaozhou Bridge. 

    More recently, the 3D printed concrete footbridge, developed by construction firm Bam and Weber Beamix, broke the previous record in terms of length. It is said to be 29.5 metres long. To test the potential of 3D printing, the two companies'technicians sought a design that would not have been possible without 3d printing, and encountered numerous challenges in the process, including structural reliability, accurate load analysis and material serviceability are among the reasons for the success of the research, and the 3D printed footbridge is currently undergoing initial testing at Eindhoven University of technology.
