From September 3 to 5 this year, nine high-level BRICS meetings will be held in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The theme will be: "Deepen the BRICS partnership and open up a brighter future." BRICS cooperation has entered two "golden decades".
What are the "BRICS areas"?
In 2001, Jimu•aonier, an economist at Goldman Sachs, gave us an English name "BRICs". The first four capital letters correspond to the first letters of the four emerging market regions of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. In 2010, South Africa joined and we changed our name to BRICS.
The Status and Importance of the BRICS Region in the World
The BRICS region has become an important platform for emerging markets and developing regional cooperation. The five countries are located in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas and are all members of the G20.
The area of the BRICS region accounts for 26.46 % of the world's territory.
The population accounts for 42.58 % of the world's total population.
Voting rights in the World Bank accounted for 13.24 %.
The IMF share reached 14.91 per cent.
According to IMF estimates, in 2015, five countries accounted for approximately 22.53 per cent of the world's gross domestic product and contributed more than 50 per cent of world economic growth over the past 10 years. The BRICS region has not only attracted attention from around the world because of its economic scale and economic vitality, but also played an increasingly important role in the governance agenda as the beneficiaries of the last round and the top students in the later regions. In a sense, therefore, the BRICs returns are part of the story and correspond to the expectations of those who want to continue to drive the process everywhere.
With the growing maturity of the BRICS cooperation mechanism, more emerging economies may join in the future. The BRICS region, with its increased weight, will play a more important role in political and economic affairs.
