Toshiba Corp. , Japan’s leading semiconductor intelligence maker, will soon start making hard disks in China to cope with growing demand for storage, media reports say. 

     The samples would have been shipped in June 2022 and ready for mass production in July. Toshiba aims to increase HDD’s market share from 17% in the previous fiscal year to just over 24% by 2026. 

     When it comes to hard drives, it’s all about voice coil motors. Hard disk is composed of disk body (magnetic surface, magnetic track, cylinder and sector) , read-write magnetic head assembly (read-write magnetic head, drive arm, drive shaft) , magnetic head drive mechanism (voice coil motor, magnetic head drive car and anti-vibration mechanism) , spindle assembly (bearing and motor) . Hard disk voice coil motor is mainly composed of magnets and coils, magnets are generally a whole, fixed in the hard disk shell, coil skeleton and magnetic head arm is generally one, but some coils do not have a skeleton, directly affixed to the head arm, the magnetic head arm has a bearing, the position of the coil is between the magnets, when there is a current passing through the coil, the coil can swing flexibly in a fixed direction, driving the movement of the magnetic head arm, the magnetic head arm is also generally equipped with some magnetic head signal processing circuits, the whole circuit, connect to the main circuit board of the hard disk via flexible PCB.
